'Edison's Conquests' Sex Photos - Hundreds More Images Seized
2 February 2008
Hong Kong Police held a press conference this evening to confirm they had arrested two more suspects, in connection with the nude and sexually explicit images purportedly of Edison Chen (陳冠希), Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐), Bobo Chan (陳文媛) and Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) that emerged on the web this week.
This brings the number of people arrested in the last 24 hours over the sex photos scandal to six. Police arrested four people late last night and early this morning.
There are now a total of seven people being held by police over the scandal. Chung Yik Tin (鍾亦天), a 29-year-old unemployed man, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with publishing obscene material. He appeared before a magistrates' court yesterday.
Assistant commissioner Wong Fook Chuen (黃福全) told reporters that, between 11PM last night and 8PM today Hong Kong time, the police had made six arrests: four men and two women, aged between 23 and 30.
Five of the suspects were arrested in the Aberdeen district of the city, while the final man was arrested in Central.
The police said that their raid in Central involved the seizure of computers and CDs that contain hundreds of related sex photos that have not yet been uploaded onto the internet.
The police are still investigating whether or not any of the suspects in custody are the original source of the photos. Police told the press that, if they had not caught the original perpetrator, they were getting close.
They said the suspects they had arrested do not have any connection with Edison, Gillian, Bobo, or Cecilia, so there was no blackmail involved.
The police added that the six seem to know each other, either directly or through other friends, and that three of them work in IT.
The police said the six are being held on suspicion of possessing obscene material with intent to distribute, but have not yet been charged.
The police said the investigation continues and that there may be more arrests to come.
The police are still investigating whether the photos are real or digitally faked.
Hong Kong newspapers are speculating that the photos are real and were stolen from a notebook computer belonging to Edison when it went in for repair the year before last.
