Denise Ho Speaks Out For Bobo Chan

1 February 2008

Denise Ho (何韻詩) took part in an event for Oxfam yesterday, where she shared her experiences of her trip to Cambodia with the organisation. She also signed up to become an Oxfam Partner, pledging to provide a monthly donation to help beat poverty in the region.

Denise also revealed that she has already applied to be on the list of volunteers to join the next Oxfam expedition to Africa. Talking about all the innoculations she needs to go to these areas, she laughed that she had to have six injections to go to Cambodia, so her body is well equipped and does not need any more.

The "HOCC Charity Fund" [HOCC is Denise's nickname] has now been set up and Denise said that she was extremely pleased to see that her fans had formed volunteer groups to arrange activities for the fund.

With Denise's good friends Bobo Chan (陳文媛) and Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐) caught up in the recent obscene photograph scandal, she was asked about how she felt. Denise said that she was concerned for her friends and was extremely angry about what had happened and felt that the person who distributed the photographs should be executed. She continued by saying that no matter if the photographs were genuine or not, then as civilised Hong Kong citizens, people should not distribute the pictures further and make things worse. She remarked: "If the people in the photographs were your relatives, your girlfriend or friends, would you still be so eager to see them?"

Denise explained that she did not want to call Bobo during these sensitive times, but she had sent an SMS with a message of support. She reported that Bobo had sent her a simple reply. Denise said that she was especially worried about Bobo because she is no longer part of the entertainment business.

Bobo had retired from showbiz in 2006 after meeting her investment company director boyfriend Kam Chi Yiu (金紫耀) and had been preparing to marry into high society. Asked if she felt that this incident would affect Bobo's marriage plans, Denise replied: "After she [Bobo] left showbusiness, she led a very happy life and I have met her boyfriend and was very happy for them. I hope she will remain strong despite the recent shocking developments."
